Single Sign-On

Overview

"Single Sign-On" (SSO) refers to logging into your Bluehost account using a separate software service provider, such as Google, Facebook, WordPress, etc. Even though Bluehost's software systems are independent of an SSO service provider, access to both is granted with a single successful sign-on. To sign in to Bluehost using SSO, you must first input your username and password from one of our approved third-party service providers.

The Single Sign-On functionality and how to set it up to authenticate and access your Bluehost account are both covered in this post. The most commonly asked questions are also provided.

Note: This article explains the split experience between the Rock and Account Manager platforms when managing Single Sign-On (SSO). Please see Account Manager vs. Rock to learn more.

How to Use SSO

Once SSO is enabled:

  • Log in to your Bluehost account using this method instead of using your account credentials (username/domain and password).
  • Use it to grant access to someone helping you create your website or take care of the financial aspects of your hosting account.

Account Manager

  • Use it to log in to your Bluehost account instead of using your user ID and password.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the benefits of using Single Sign-On (SSO)?

A: Here's a list of its benefits:

  • Fewer passwords to remember.
  • Unlimited Hosting and Billing users.
  • No need to share passwords.
  • No need to manage passwords.
  • Why does Bluehost want to know who I am on Google, view my email address, or view my basic profile information?

We only keep the username/email address for people signing in to know who you are and what you are connected to. For folks signing up with SSO, we use the basic information to make signup easier. Still, other than that, the data never gets saved to our servers. We respect your data and information.

Q: What passwords does SSO work with?

A: There are now three fundamental categories of authorization-Hosting, Billing, and Main. The first password you made is the Main password. It is the one with limitless capabilities. Only pages connected to purchasing services for the account can be accessed by Billing. The hosting password, which gives access to the server where your website is stored, is often associated with a domain.

Q: Can I have more than one Single Sign-On?

A: Yes and no. You can only have one Main login, which means only one account with all the rights and privileges as your username/domain login you created when you first got your account. In contrast, you are permitted to create as many Hosting and Billing logins as you require.

Q: When can I log in using other providers like Facebook?

A: Technically, you can right now. Google is an OpenID provider, so pretty much any widely respected credentials will work.

Q: What makes this different from cPanel SSO?

A: Access is the primary distinction. Beyond what the fundamental cPanel offers, we created many more features and services. This allows you to log into cPanel and access all of those capabilities. Of course, you may sign in with the same credentials on both.
